TMM's Server Guides

This is very basic set of guides, intended for the beginner by starting with some very basic information such as what is meant by a "Dedicated Server" in on-line gaming, how to setup a small server from home and how to setup the equipment and run the server.   After following this guide, you should be able to launch your own game server within your home for internet or home network play (LAN).

The following outline is displayed in the sequence recommend for those just starting out, and hopefully to simplify the path for others looking for some specific answers.

What is a Dedicated Server?   This short guide will describe it in simple terms, in the context of a server for home setup.  Of course, another option to get a dedicated server is to use a service that will host the machines for you and give you full control

What do I need to get started, and how many players can I have?  Based on the common home internet service, such as cable or DSL, this will describe one approach and give you an idea of what you can expect for maximum payers.

How do I host a simple server just using the game?   Anyone can host a game from within Medal of Honor, and the host can join along in the game.  This is the simple guide with screen prints.

How do I launch the server without starting the game?  To run a dedicated server, this is the recommended approach.   If you have a machine that will not run the game because the video card is insufficient, it still may be possible to use the machine as a dedicated server if you launch it from the desktop.   This guide will walk you through the entire setup process.

Server is running NOW WHAT?   How do I Administer?  A basic starter guide, with some of the basic commands for checking status, sending a message to the players, changing a map, or kicking a player.  Only the basic commands.

How do I setup multiple machines on one connection?   A simple home networking guide, describing ways you might connect multiple computers, using a router, switches, or hubs.

How do I configure my router to open the server to the internet? This guide describes the setup on a Linksys Router, but should apply to most home routers available.

FAQ Page.... a few common questions anyway.

Need more help?  Check out my resources page, and you can also ask questions in the forum.  I can't answer every question, but if I know the answer I will reply.

I hope you find these guides helpful.  If so, please pass on the word to others and if you have your own website promoting your server, please consider adding a link to TMMworld.com
