Dedicated Server Setup Guide

Thanks to [BSR]-Stone,  I was able to add this guide for COD2 to the site.

If you are truly a beginner, and have never setup a server before, and do not understand the guide below, I suggest you read throgh the Medal of Honor Allied Assault Guides (MOHAA).  The setup process is very much the same for MOHAA and COD, but the MOHAA guides explain much more for you.  The guide below will point out the key differences for COD2 such as the command line and port codes for your firewall.

Thank you [BSR]-Stone for updating the guide, and also for submitting the COD2 server files for the download page!

The Guide
If you have a machine that you would like to setup as a dedicated server, this will get you started.  To play the game, Call of Duty does require a high quality video card, but to run a dedicated server, you DO NOT need to have a good video card in the machine if launching the server from a desktop short-cut.  The files supplied on this site for COD2 will get you started for this type of launch.

To make it easy for startup, [BSR]-Stone created a zip file containing the short-cut file , server.cfg and all the other files to to setup a dedicated server.  So, in the zip file you can download,  there are 7 files... 2 are text files (to aid in setup), and 1 text file that goes into ([Call of Duty 2]\main\players) folder that you created. 1 desktop shortcut link, and 2 config files.1 text file with console commands.

If you have installed the game in the machine intended to be the server, just unzip the  files into any folder you like (ex. C:\COD2 Server Setup Info). For the shortcut, it assumes you did a standard install into drive C, otherwise you need to change the path for the game in the target settings of the short cuts..  This will launch the server, and display the console for you. Put the shortcut any place you like of course, on your desktop or someplace in your start menu.

Files enclosed in the zip:
Short Cut.  The desktop shortcut file (Call of Duty(R)2 Multiplayer Server.lnk)
Config Files  (my_cod2_server.cfg),(config_mp.cfg), and 3 text files ( active.txt, Read Me First.txt, COD2 Server Config Setup.txt).

For the .cfg file, all you need to do is change the server name (unless you want to partner with TMMworld hehehe), but you also might want to put in your recon password and private password.   If you set private slots , the private password allows you to enter the server in these slots if the server is already full... reserved slots.   Oh ya.... there are those other settings about you and your machine and things :)

Where do you get the Zip file?
To download the server files, you will see a section for COD2 server files on my downloads page, pictured in the image below.  Click the Link -> HERE.

Need to know about Router setup and ports settings?   Need to see an example of router setup screens?  See my Medal of Honor Router Guide, it works the same for COD and COD2, except the port numbers are different.  My Router Guide is HERE.

Remote Console / RCON and other help?
I just haven't had time to get to this and other subjects for COD2, but from experience so far, Remote Console or Rcon is the same as with Medal of Honor. To get started, please see my guide on this site under Medal of Honor.(Console command file included in download)
